1. What is Academic Integrity?

To define Academic Integrity, let's break the concept down:

  • Integrity refers to the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles
  • Academic is anything relating to education and scholarship
Therefore Academic Integrity is the application scholarship moral principles and practice of ethical behaviour in one's academic activities. It is "being honest in your academic work, being fair to others, and taking responsibility for your learning" [1].

The University of Namibia has a Policy for Academic Integrity that you can find HERE (this Policy is currently being revised to bring it on par with latest developments). It provides guidelines on the expected behaviour for students and staff and how violations of this Policy are sanctioned, and it also lists examples of academic integrity infringements.
